Espanola Municipal Airport

The Ohkay Owingeh Airport, designated as ESO by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and E14 by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), is a public airport situated in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, USA. It lies three nautical miles northeast of EspaƱola’s central business district and is owned by the Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Council. Formerly known as the San Juan Pueblo Airport, its name was changed in 2008, aligning with the San Juan Pueblo’s return to its original pre-Spanish name in November 2005. The Tewa name Ohkay Owingeh translates to “place of the strong people.” In 1978, the airport briefly accommodated commercial airline service when Trans Western Airlines of Utah included EspaƱola as a stop on a route between Albuquerque and Denver, with additional stops at Santa Fe, Taos, and Alamosa.
